At Buckingham Dental Practice our aim is to help our valued patients enjoy a happy, healthy smile for life. Everything we do is therefore about providing modern, caring and ethical dentistry for the long term benefit of all the family.
With regular visits to the dentist, routine dentistry (in the form of regular dental check-ups, digital xrays and dental hygiene appointments) allows us to help you look after and make the most of your teeth as well as to pick up any dental problems before they worsen. This also means you can avoid the traditional pattern of fillings and extractions, which can end up being costly, not to mention potentially also end up in the loss of valuable teeth.
Passionate about helping our patients smile with confidence in an affordable, professional and convenient way, we provide the choice of either seeing us on a ‘pay as you go’ basis or via our Denplan Budget Schemes. This provides our patients with the opportunity to budget their routine dental care and to also benefit from emergency appointments, dental insurance and discount on cosmetic dental treatments.
Did you know that long term plaque build-up (and subsequent gum disease which happens when the bacteria in plaque attacks our gums below the surface to make them red and inflammed) is one of the most common causes of tooth decay and eventual tooth loss in the UK?
That’s why, at Buckingham Dental Practice, we recommend dental hygiene appointments at least every six months with one of our friendly and professional hygienist. Playing an important part in reducing your oral health problems, your dental hygiene appointment will include the following:
- A gentle yet thorough clean of your teeth to remove the build-up of harmful plaque
- Removal of odour causing bacteria for a fresh breath
- Soft tissue checks to ensure healthy gums
- Advice on how to effectively brush and floss your teeth
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is needed when the dental pulp inside of your tooth becomes inflammed or infected. This is often caused by tooth decay and is unlikely to go away on its own. This infection is likely to spread to your other teeth and gums if left untreated, so it is of upmost importance to receive root canal treatment before more damage is caused.
White or tooth coloured fillings provide a healthier, more natural alternative to traditional silver amalgam fillings. They also allow for a minimally invasive restoration meaning more of your natural tooth can be preserved.
White filings can be used in the front or the back of the mouth. They are the ideal, natural-looking way, to restore strength and function to damaged teeth. Your dentist can build up cracked or chipped teeth with a white filing to restore each tooth to its original look and feel or, it can be used to close gaps, reshape uneven or short teeth and filling cavities caused by tooth decay.
At Buckingham Dental Practice our white fillings are available in a wide range of shades and opacities. Our team of highly trained dental professionals are able to build up white fillings through a complex ‘layering technique’ to create perfect, yet invisible, restorations that blend into the rest of your smile.
If your tooth has become broken, badly decayed or damaged in such a way that a filling is not strong enough to support the tooth, then a Crown may be recommended by your dentist as the most suitable treatment option for you.
A crown (also known as a ‘cap’) is a protective cover fitted over the existing structure of a broken or damaged tooth to restore function and appearance. With advances in modern dental technology, all-ceramic crowns are proven to be as strong and durable as metal porcelain crowns and so they are able to offer patients the best of both worlds – a long lasting and natural looking solution.
With no black line at gum level and made to match your natural teeth in shape and colour, an all-ceramic crown is a natural looking restoration that can blend into the rest of your smile.
Veneers are very thin shells of porcelain which are made to fit over the visible surface of your tooth. Used to dramatically transform the appearance of your smile, porcelain veneers are tailor-made, by our expert dental technicians at our dental laboratory, in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colours.
A popular treatment choice of celebrities as they can totally transform the look of your smile, dental veneers are also an ideal treatment option for teeth that have been badly stained (and cannot be improved by teeth whitening), for closing gaps or spaces in your smile, for badly chipped teeth, for teeth that have been ground down over time from tooth grinding.
Teeth can become stained or darkened over a period of time due to a number of factors such as age, smoking, or drinking tea and red wine. If you are brushing and flossing twice a day, but still feel that your smile is not as bright as you would like, then our professional teeth whitening treatment may be of an interest to you.
Brighten your Smile at Home
Your first step when getting your teeth whitened is an initial consultation with your dentist – to ensure you are dentally fit for whitening treatment before we begin. If so, a dental impression is then taken and custom trays made from this impression and so that your new trays fit your teeth exactly.
Our Profesional Teeth Whitening Gel also contains a number of specially selected ingredients including potassium nitrate to help reduce sensitivity, remineralising calcium and fluoride as well as naturally soothing aloe vera.
The whitening gel has a very high water content which means that it does not dehydrate your teeth during whitening. It is also extremely viscous which means that it adheres well to the tooth surface which leads to enhanced whitening results. We’ve also formulated the gel to be pH neutral.
People lose teeth for all sorts of reasons inducing illness, accident and deficient care. The loss of a single tooth can lead to the loss of other teeth and if left untreated can lead to permanent changes in facial appearance. At Buckingham Dental Practice we therefore offer a variety of dentures that are available to replace missing teeth and stop the chain reaction caused by tooth loss.
The denture teeth we use are gender specific and are made from state of the art materials. Whether your denture base is made from gum coloured plastic or biocompatible metal alloy, rest assured it will be resistant to impact and offer the best fit possible.
